How to Create a Scene in Your Store Window
If you want your retail window displays to turn heads, you need to create a scene. This, however, can be a little tricky, especially if you’re less than creative. To help you make more dynamic, visually interesting store window displays, here are a few tips.
You need to use props for window displays if you want to create a compelling scene. Stacking a mountain of products might seem like a good idea, but it’s been done time and time again. No one is going to give it a second glance. If you were to get some mannequins, though, and pose them in a way that makes it look like they were enjoying your products, you’ll be well on your way. If you windows are too small for mannequins, you should still get other, smaller props instead.
Relevancy Is a Factor.
If you make a Summer themed retail window displays in October, it’s going to look a little silly, and send the wrong message to people. Because you’re not putting enough effort into your retail window displays, they’ll think you’re not putting in any effort to impress them. Although you don’t have to make your visual merchandising window displays seasonal, they do have to be relevant to the time.
Create a Focal Point.
The whole point of retail window displays is to get people to notice your products, to make them want to buy them, and then bring them in the store to do just that. However, it’s entirely possible to create retail window displays that hide or obscure the products passersby are supposed to be looking at.
Instead of letting this happen, take a piece of painter’s tape and stick it on the outside of the window where people’s lines of sight are. As you’re creating your scene, make sure that the product is somewhere along that line, and people will surely notice.
