Business signs design

These days, signs are some of the most ubiquitous forms of advertising. There are signs, billboards, and other types of advertising everywhere we look, so making sure that your signs are noticeable and well designed is important in making sure that your customers and potential customers notice your signs. Here are three things to learn from famous logos to incorporate into your sign design.

1. Interesting
One thing your business’ logo needs to be is interesting. It should be eye catching and pleasing to look at. For example, the Starbucks logo, which is one of the most recognizable logos, features a twin tailed siren whose simple, smirking figure is encircled by the name of the coffee giant. Rather than simply putting their name in the logo, Starbucks looked to the their roots and the history of Seattle and its position as a seaport.

2. Simple
Another important aspect of designing a logo for your small business sign is to keep it simple. A customer should be able to take one look at your logo and be able to recognize it in the future. One way to make sure this happens is to avoid making your logo look too busy or hard to understand at a single glance. For example, the Facebook logo, which is also one of the most recognizable logos these days is just one letter in a colored square. A simple business sign design will also be easier to make.

3. Appropriate
The last thing that a logo or small business sign needs to be is appropriate to some aspect of the business. The Apple logo is the perfect example of this. It’s just an apple with a single bite taken out of it. It’s the name of the company, but it’s not textual, it’s visual. People will get confused if your logo has nothing or little to do with your business. That’s not to say simply use a picture of the name of your business — be clever.
