If you’re looking to join an industry with bountiful job opportunities and potential for growth in the future, consider the transportation industry. After all, this one industry alone currently has more than 12 million vehicles in use all throughout the United States. This means that well over five and a half million people work within this industry as of the current date. And while this is certainly an already impressive number, it is also one that is likely to grow with time, something that is very fortunate indeed for those who are looking to make a career for themselves within it, to say the very least.
And there is certainly no doubting the growth behind the above in the slightest, at least not when it comes to the transportation industry of the United States. As a matter of fact, considerable growth has been seen within this industry over the course of recent years – and even more is expected to be seen in the years that are ahead of us as well. For one thing, the actual amount of goods being shipped and transported has climbed significantly – and will continue to do so in the time that is ahead of us. For instance, the year of 2013 showed an already impressive 15 billion tons of cargo being transported. Over the course of the next two decades, until we reach about the year of 2040, this amount is expected to grow to nearly 19 billion tons transported throughout this one country alone over the course of that same year long period, which is not a very long time at all, at least not in the big picture of things.
And this is not the only area where growth is likely to be seen. In addition to growth in the physical amount of goods that are transported over the course of a single year, the actual value of these goods will also grow quite impressively, to say the very least. In fact, by the time that we reach that very same year of 2040, a mere ton of cargo will be worth more than $1,300. This is up from just over $880 per ton back in, again, that same year of 2013. And while $880 per ton is still certainly impressive, there is no denying the fact that this is tremendous growth indeed, to say the very least. Of course, this trend is only likely to continue onward even after that year of 2040, with impressive growth continuing to be seen throughout an industry that will grow only more and more important with the progression of time as well.
But why, exactly, have these truckload freight services grown so impressively in recent years? For one thing, there are a wider variety of truckload freight services than ever before. In addition to your standard truckload freight services, less than truckload freight shipping has also made quite the name for itself. As a matter of fact, the LTL shipping industry is now actually worth at least $35 billion, a number that is again climbing quite impressively. And this is just one of the freight services to fall outside of your standard truckload freight services. Expedited freight companies have also become very important, as have various other specialty freight services. Of course, truckload freight services themselves still remain very important in the grand scheme of things, as the desired for truckload shipping can be found in truckload freight services all throughout the country.
At the end of the day, the climb of e-commerce also has a role both in the growth of truckload freight services as well as in the arena of specialty freight services. After all, e-commerce alone brings in more than $420 billion in revenue over the course of just one single year, and that’s here in the United States alone. In direct relation to the growth of e-commerce, the growth of the transportation industry has been undeniable. After all, the more that people are buying goods that must then be shipped to them, the more that people will utilize various truckload freight services and the like.
