The Appeal of Remote Jobs

Today in the 21st century, American employees have more options than ever before for how they arrange their work space. The Telephone

The concept of the telephones dates back to the 1870s, and telephones are as relevant as ever. Many of today’s jobs make use of them, so employees may speak with customers, business clients, general consumers, and more. These jobs can be remote call center jobs, or they can be performed at the workplace. Either way, proper communication skills and sales skills alike are needed to do this work just right.

Sales call strategy is a whole topic in its own, but in short, having good conversational skill by phones goes a long way for this sort of work. The sales rep must build a rapport with any customer and behave in a warm and patient manner, and make the customer feel valued and noticed. That, combined with good sales technique, may make for effective sales. In many American companies today, telephone work is a major part of any sales funnel.

What might go wrong? Aside from poor technique, a sales rep may suffer from a loud workplace, such as having many other co-workers also using the phone or talking in person. All of this ruckus makes it difficult for each party on the phone to hear each other, which is bound to result in poor sales call quality or customer service quality. That, and so much noise will raise an employee’s stress level, distract them, and cause them to make more workplace errors.

An employee can’t simply ask their co-workers to be quiet, so instead, that employee may either use a sound-proof office phone booth, or work phone-based jobs at home. In this way, the employee can enjoy a quiet and controlled environment, making for excellent customer service call quality and lowering their stress levels. And in any case, the employee never comes face-to-face with customers anyway, so the customer will not be bothered by this. Many American employees have a room in their residence designed to be a home office, and such home offices nearly always feature a telephone.

Other Reasons to Work Remotely

Jobs that involve the telephone, Internet work, or both can be performed remotely at home, or if phones aren’t being used, can even be done on the go, such as on a laptop at a coffee shop. Why? Not only can the remote employee avoid noise at the workplace, but they can also avoid bad air and germs at the workplace, leading to fewer sick days. Many offices have dirty carpets, dirt-caked ventilation systems, and germ-ridden surfaces that may affect cognitive function and increase incidents of illness.

Some job seekers can’t easily visit an office for work anyway. Some Americans already have a job or a college career, and they would rather work remote call center jobs or Internet-based jobs. Those jobs allow the employee to choose their own hours, which is essential flexibility. Not only that, but some job seekers are single parents with young children at the home, and they can’t easily leave their residence for an office for eight hours. Instead, the single parent may work and attend to their parenting duties at the same time with flexible careers such as remote writing jobs or remote call center jobs. Such jobs can fit nearly any schedule. Americans with few or no transportation options, or those with serious social anxiety, may also make good use of these flexible remote jobs.
